Talavera pottery in Mexico: Traditional style listed by UNESCO

It is a style of ceramics that dates back centuries and a tradition that links Spain and Mexico.
Now, the cultural significance of "Talavera" pottery has been officially recognised by the United Nations's cultural agency, UNESCO.

Al Jazeera's John Holman reports from Puebla in Mexico, where the style has become intertwined with the city's identity.

This ware is indicative of 500 years of culture. More talavera is produced in Mexico than in Spain, where it originated. It is the essence of a people and the work of a nation.

Unique cultural heritage like this magnificent pottery is being lost around the world as globalisation takes over. When it is gone what will we have? More cheap stuff and a destitute unemployed underclass who used to be craftspersons.
