@BestICanAfford Antiques I once drove through Michigan antique hunting. Central and South. Found some interesting items. Certainly were antique malls and stores back then. Is there still an intact antique industry there or has the pandemic situation affected that?
@ι¦ζεε’ There are still quite a few shops! There’s a lovely little town of about 2,500 people that has my favorite store. I’ve gotten very good Murano and Japanese antiques, and some fair Chinese pieces there! I got my black Formia cat there for $45! Just one of those “Don’t judge a book by its” places.
May I ask what time period was the term Great Japan used on the base of vases? Iβve just had someone translate it for me. Iβve never heard the term before. Many thanks.
It’s believe they started using this term during the Meiji Era. I’d heard it was a decision made based on psychology. To impress upon strangers the importance of their country. In the time before the Meiji Era (the Edo period, and before), very little was known about Japan, and conversely, Japan knew very little of the outside world. They elected to mark many of their exports “Dai Nippon”, or “Great Japan”. I believe I have the right of it, but I’d be happy to be corrected.
@ALEXANDER DALEZ I think I have 7 Satsuma pieces. A bit of Kutani and Imari as well. A few other things thrown into the mix. Japanese glass, bronze, and silver for example.
Love is what I have in my heart for this posting
Don’t tell the secrets we just keep this between us

As always, I welcome any comments, corrections, and additional information! Bless us with your knowledge. π
Nice!
