Part 7 of 9 – Peter Voulkos Demo 1974 Kansas City Art Inst

Raw uncut footage of Peter Voulkos Demo performed in 1974 at the Kansas City Art Institute. Due to the age and type of original footage sound and quality are poor.

Thanks for sharing his techniques. Whose video is this? Did you capture this? Wonderful documentation of a humorous artist. Converse high top tennis shoes were so fashionable them as seen in the close up.

It’s my video but I did not capture this. One of the reals were damaged but still have about three hours worth of documentation from the other two.

Thanks for posting Ken. Peter Voulkos is one of my hero’s along with Frank Lloyd Wright, Van Gogh, Matisse etc; I live here in San Francisco and went over to Berkeley several times to see if I would run into him, but it never happened. He was (and is) a giant in American art. Few people can say they invented an art form. Peter Voulkos did.

Why he is not revered like other giants of American creativity, I don’t know. It’s bewildering.

Yea, I thought it was Ken but wasn’t sure. I didn’t know him until he was older. Lots of laughs within the circle of friends. Some of the best and hardest years of my life were spent working for Pete and his friends.

Great filming. Did not know this existed. No YouTube when I was at art school. Only a few views. Surprising consider what a legend he is. Seen lots of pics, first time I heard his voice.
