Still Here: Remembering Seattle’s Renowned Ceramics Artist Akio Takamori

When Japanese-American artist Akio Takamori died in January after a three-year battle with pancreatic cancer, the art world lost one of its more revolutionary ceramics artists. And the students and faculty at the University of Washington lost a beloved teacher and colleague. From painted ceramic vessels to large installations of figurative work, Takamori’s renderings of everyday life capture the spectrum of the human condition.
