For 34 years, Ardmore studios has crafted away original ceramics that have provided income to feed many families in KwaZulu-Natal province, #SouthAfrica. Trained by Ardmore’s founder Feé Halsted, 80 painters and sculptors transform African art into ornamental pieces. Items have been sold by Christie’s and Sotheby’s and since branching out into bespoke furniture, wallpaper and tableware; luxury French brand Hermès has collaborated with Ardmore. Despite its international success, it has remained true to its roots, trained and developed local artists, as well as caring for a community hit hard by HIV/AIDS. Today this studio is an institution in South Africa and continues to shape and change people’s lives.
