A first-hand record of Maria Martinez and her family making traditional pottery of the San Ildefonso Pueblo (New Mexico). Pots are built up from the raw clay, all the way though polishing ('burnishing'), decorating, and firing. Produced at the Idyllwild School of Music and The Arts, in collaboration with Susan Peterson.

This film by Stuart Roe, working with Susan Peterson (USC facility) was created circa 1977. Maria passed away in 1980, at the age of 92 or 93 years of age. What a master pottery artist MARIA was. She and her husband Julian perfected the craft in the 1930s, and really helped the San Ildefonso People.
What beautiful work she did! Humble people, accomplishing great things. Thank you for making this film available!
