I go looking for the oldest potters clay in the American Southwest near Tucson, Arizona only to find that this clay is rapidly disappearing beneath concrete. Explore the remote prehistory of ceramics and the long ancient ceramic traditions of the Tucson area.

I never knew pottery in the Americas started in Central Mexico.
Pottery in the Americas started with the Valdivia culture of coastal Ecuador, at least a full thousand years before ceramics were made in the valley of Mexico.
Great video, Andy. Thanks!
Thanks Sharon!
Another great video…you are just having WAY too much fun!
Thanks. I take every opportunity to get out of the house and explore.
It’s really sad to see these areas disappearing
Yes indeed.
P.S. HOW ABOUT A GOOD BOOK INDEAN CLAY FOR DUMMY S. BY ANDY WARD? THANKS ROB
Yeah, it is in the works.
@Andy Ward’s Ancient Pottery thank
Yes,what you said is right, these areas will disappear.
I recommend you to write a book on ancient pottery and I would be the first to buy it.
Have you seen my book “Mud Puzzles” https://ancientpottery.how/product/book-mud-puzzles/ it is not a pottery making manual but describes what was going on in ancient Arizona and how I came to make replicas.
I’m blessed to have clay I can harvest on private land, with permission, on the edge of the wilderness area in Vermont. I’ve seen a lot of the places I roamed in Vermont turned into second houses and condos.
I bought a corn grinder last month and now know why 🤣
You are truly blessed.
Great 👍
Thank you 👍
How long can a corn grinder stand up to abrasive clay and sand?
Are the grinding wheels replaceable? Michael
The grinding disks are replaceable, just held in place by screws. They will last for years, check out this video https://youtu.be/7GKyK0cvzbY
What a great channel you have! Friendly suggestion – maybe drop the music, it is distracting and competes with your presentation
Thanks, this video is a bit old, I have improved on my audio since then.
