Potter, Mark Hewitt, throwing a 5 lb. stoneware jar

It takes a high level of skill to turn a lump of five pounds of clay into a lovely bulbous jar. In this video you can see the process Mark goes through to center the clay and carefully pull the clay up to the desired height, and create a robust, appealing shape. He meticulously creates the rim, and ever so gently lifts the newly form pot off the wheel and onto a waiting ware board. Mark sells his pottery at his studio in Pittsboro, NC and online at .

Mark has been potting for nearly 40 years, originally from England and a student of renown pottery, Michael Cardew. Since moving to NC in 1983 Mark has trained over 25 apprentices, most of whom now have pottery studios of their own.
